Harmonica lessons logo

If you have already played the harmonica and you want to improve your performances these are the lessons for you.

As a intermediate student you will learn some more complex exercises, songs and topics. I will follow you in each phase of you learning path, leading you toward the advanced level!

Here are some of the topics that will be covered:

  1. STUDY METHOD: When learning something new it is essential to have a structured method of study and a way of practicing precise and aimed at objectives. The intermediate harmonica student should pay attention to this aspect and will be guided with suggestions to get the best out of his study and practice sessions.
  2. TONGUE BLOCKING - BENDING: The technique that allows us to obtain from the harmonics the notes that normally are not there. Learning to how to bend means greatly expanding our ability to produce musical phrases and to play in a more articulated way and on different musical genres.
  3. TONGUE BLOCKING - RITMIC COMPLEX HARMONY: Together with the study of melodic lines, the student practices some chordal exercises, also developing the sense of rhythm, fundamental aspect for the study of any musical discipline. In this phase, the study can be integrated with explanations of musical theory and exercises of "solfeggio". This is a very effective practice to improve one’s perception of rhythm. In these lessons you play on the harmonica some most complex rhythms that are completed with small melodies. You will learn to create a "harmonica solo", which consists in accompanying yourself while playing the solo part.
  4. TONGUE BLOCKING - OTTAVE AND SPLITS: The power of the tongue blocking technique allows you to decide which harmonica holes should sound and which should remain silent. The ability to close intermediate holes during an execution allows you to play splits, bichords, octaves and false octaves.
  5. TONGUE BLOCKING - PROGRESSIVE DIFFICULTY SONGS: Since the first lessons we study songs of progressive difficulty to put into practice all the techniques and concepts that we learn from time to time. The songs are equipped with printable scores, backing tracks and of course the recordings of the complete performance. A intermediate level student will learn some more complex songs with some great techniques in them.
  6. THE POSITIONS: With the same harmonica we can play on many different key songs. To do this we need to know the positions, the fifth's cycle, the instrument notes layout and some notions of musical theory. The intermediate level harmonica student will explore the different positions to understand how to use them without having to bring tables and schematics on stage!
  7. THE DIFFERENT MUSICAL GENRES: At the intermediate level, the student learns to play the harmonica on different musical genres, going beyond the blues and exploring rock, funk, pop music, reggae, swing, folk, and any other style.
